The Fortress is a military building that is available in Tech Level 3. It costs 550 Ore, and attacks enemy units that come too close - both flying units and ground units. It boasts the highest HP of any building in the game. In addition, each Fortress grants the player +20 population, and lets them train units and research technologies. Most unique units are only available at the Fortress.
The Fortress does not need a Power Core to be powered. Like the Turret and the Command Center, the Fortress can be garrisoned, with room up to 20, by not only Troopers, but also by Mounted Troopers and Scouts to gain heavier potency to its attack, up to a max of a whopping 20 additional laser blasts per volley, depending on the total strength of the occupants inside.
Being difficult to destroy, it needs heavy volumes of fire to take out. Its true vulnerability lies in being out-ranged by long-ranged artillery like Cannons and Cruisers as well as its relatively high ore cost. Also, ungarrisoned Fortresses tend to fare very poorly against mass Trooper attacks that are backed up with Medics.
In the expansion, most civilizations have their own Fortress bonus that improves the civilization's Fortresses.
- Galactic Empire: Constructing Fortresses is 10% faster.
- Gungans: Fortresses cost 50 less Ore. As a civilization bonus, their Fortresses regenerate, and Ore is collected 10% faster since Tech Level 3.
- Rebel Alliance: Fortresses get +1 to Range, Line of Sight and Search Radius.
- Royal Naboo: Fortresses get extra attack against Mechs and Heavy Weapons.Their unique technology Taxation decreases the units' training cost by 10%.
- Trade Federation: Fortresses get +3 to Anti-air Range. Their unique technologies: Neimoidian Endorsement decreases the building cost by 5% and Fusion Extractor increases Ore collection speed by 50%.
- Wookiees: Fortresses get +10% Hit Points and +5 Line of Sight.
- Republic: Garrisoned units are healed 33% faster. Their unique technology Galactic Senate Hub gives Fortresses +2 Range, Line of Sight, and attack vs Aircraft, Mechs, Heavy Weapons, and Troopers.
- Confederacy: Fortresses garrison 5 more units.

"The Fortress is a heavily armed and armoured Tech Level 3 structure made entirely of refined ore. Not only can a Fortress effectively defend your base against most types of units, but it also lets you produce your civ's unique unit, and research a host of very useful military technologies - among these, the automated process that increases the speed at which all military units are constructed. Fortresses also produce Cannons, which are some of your single most powerful ground attack weapons; and you may use them to recruit Bounty Hunters, which are highly effective against Jedi and Sith units."
